Ready to take on a challenge? Make your February 2021 running miles count in more ways than one with the Roadrunners of Kansas City’s virtual run challenge for charity.

Last spring, Roadrunners of Kansas City (RRKC)’s inaugural VIRTUAL charitable run challenge, Miles for Charity, raised $2,280 for Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Hospital. Now we’re ready to GO GLOBAL with runners and beneficiaries spanning the globe. And, we’ve upped the challenge from one week to one month!

This health crisis has separated us socially but unites us globally. Regardless of where we live, the running community as a whole continues to mourn the cancelation of many of our races and group training runs. But that doesn’t mean we cannot still run together virtually as we distance ourselves physically.

And while we run separately, let’s raise money together!

Partner up with a neighbor, family member or a friend - even those who live far away. Or let us pair you up with a teammate.

Here’s how to be a part of Miles for Charity.

  1. Register by Jan 25, 2021. Registration includes your donation and participation swag! DEADLINE NOW EXTENDED TO JANUARY 28! Register today!

  2. Share with your friends and family ACROSS THE GLOBE! Encourage friends and family to participate by sharing the registration link.

  3. Run and submit weekly mileage during the competition month.

  4. Post pictures of your team's journey on social media and tag #miles4charity.

  5. Stay tuned weekly for updates on the leaderboard and for details about the winning team.

The Dates

Our month-long virtual run challenge begins Monday, Feb 1, 2021, and ends Sunday, Feb 28, 2021. Register by Jan 25, 2021. DEADLINE NOW EXTENDED TO JANUARY 28! Register today!

The Beneficiaries

Well, that’s up to you … if you win!

As Miles for Charity goes global, so do the charitable organizations the funds will benefit. The three options are the World Wildlife Organization, the United Nations World Food Programme, and UNICEF. Our winners will choose the charity that receives the funds raised from those three options.

The Match

Let us know if you work with a company that would like to match the funds raised and/or your donation.

The Plan

Your partner can be your next-door neighbor, an old cross country teammate from across the country, or a friend from across the globe. If you would prefer, RRKC will pair you with another runner. You’ll share who your partner is (or that you want us to partner you up with another participant!) via a form you’ll receive after you register.

Each participant will log their miles at the end of each week and RRKC will combine the pair’s miles together to determine the winner. The team with the highest combined mileage in the month of February wins. Keep an eye on the weekly leaderboard on our social media.

Runners will log weekly miles for one month. RRKC will tally the totals and announce the winner. In the event of a tie, the winners will be chosen at random from the teams with the highest number of miles.

The Swag

Miles, the Roadrunners of Kansas City mascot, is proud to appear on our Miles for Charity SWAG - both a t-shirt and a medal. After you register, you’ll receive an email asking for your shipping address and t-shirt size.

The Cost

The challenge entry fee is $51.45 within the United States and $65.70 outside of the United States (the difference in cost covers increased fees for overseas shipping). The entry fees include a t-shirt and an engraved wooden participation medal.

All challenge profits go to the charity selected by the winning team.

The ONE Non-Negotiable Rule

To prevent injury, participants should not increase their weekly mileage by more than 10%. Details on this rule will be emailed to participants after they register.

While that’s our only rule, you must, of course, also follow all social distancing mandates decreed by your local government.

Our Big Ask

Let’s raise as much money for these charities as possible! Help us encourage your local community to participate. Please share this blog post or our social media posts on your social media accounts or email the link to this post to friends and family across the globe.

The Final Step
