The Little Engine That Will
/I'm climbing my way back to running, and the process is long and steep. Unlike recovery from previous injuries, this one requires learning to run differently; to reinvent my run gait. And that involves rewiring 35+ years of muscle memory. It's painstakingly slow and makes me want to Pull. My. Hair. Out. as I focus on Each. Stupid. Step.
Thankfully, helping patients rehabilitate their gait is something I do all the time. I know what to do and how to do it! Unfortunately, sustainable changes in biomechanics require experimentation and small incremental changes over time. It's a long, uphill climb, and to reach the top, I must trust the process and exercise patience. If my patients can do it, so can I. I think I can. I know I can. I will!
